For a little more formal dinner with friends. They serve the portuguese dishes in a refined way. The appetizers were very good, we had the camenbert with honey (the honey was portuguese :) ) and the stuffed mushrooms both very nice and served with hot bread.

The mains we tried were the duck, the bacalhau com broa and the chicken with cured ham. Last two dishes were very very good. The duck was good but for my taste it did not find good harmony with the also very good tasting risotto and a couple of slices of orange... That risotto would be perfect with some grilled praws or lam cutlets... and the duck with some braised potatoes and panroasted veggies... but this is the chef in me... we had a very good meal we all went for the same dessert. We will go back to try the rest of the menu... We liked it, tell us when you go and try it too...

Very good price quality ! Nice and friendly service. Good food. Go here if you want a typical portuguese meal. After the always changing petiscos that they put on your table to tempt your tastebuts you have quite extensive choise of main dishes. Go for one of the daily specials or choose from the wide variety of meat or fish fresh from the grill. Or try the chicken. On thursday and sunday the serve the typical "cozido a portuguesa" a typical portuguese stew that you just have to try. We recommend a visit to the colunas. Very good quality for a very reasonable price. The restaurant is nicely located with great views over the marina and the river and has a large menu with antipasti, pizzas, pastas, steaks enough to choose from. We had a bruchetta, rucola salad and a carpacio, all were good. The pizzas and pastas that followed were good too. My friends loved the pana cotta... and i tried it yes it was devine but i resisted to keep those extra calories away. If it has to be italian than i prefer to eat it here.
they have a nice internet site where you can have a preview of the place...
http://www.larucula.com.pt/
mmm: ***eddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17226803288561658345noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37678951.post-1965959289582072282009-09-04T14:44:00.000-07:002010-03-08T10:07:13.270-08:00Samurai (Lisboa, Bélem)name: samurai
type place: japanese restaurant.
An all you can eat type place and again better than the ones we already visited and described: R. da Junqueira 460, 1300 Lisboa, Portugal - 213 631 936
open every day price idea: less than 20 € Difference between this chain (exist 5 restaurants spread over lisbon) and the other japanese all you can eat places is that the food is not on a buffet or passes by on a conveyer belt but it is served at the table. Not feeling like a fastfood meal from the cascais shopping food court we decided to go here again and it was a pleasant surprise. The menu has a very large variaty of dishes from cheap to slightly more expensive (but very good price quality ratio i think) . More old fashioned way of serving but good service besides the premature arrival of the main dish while we just started our soup. I liked it anyway and for the coca~cola zero lovers they have it in a bottle :)
I had a nice grilled fish after the fishsoup and my partner enjoyed dobrada a typical portuguese transmontana dish with cow stomach and beans.
This is the only restaurant i can recomend when you are in the cascais shopping area and you do not feel like spending your money in the fastfood chains...
here we paid only slightly more and received cola zero from a bottle....
mmm: ***eddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17226803288561658345noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37678951.post-50970676051857230822009-02-22T11:03:00.000-08:002009-10-26T15:32:17.870-07:00XL, (Lisboa, Assembleia da Republica)

name: XL

type place: famous portuguese restaurant.

location: Calçada da Estrela 57 - Lisboa1200-661 LISBOA

tel: 213956118 open every day but only for dinner

price idea: less than 40 €

Went to this restaurant with high expectations. Supposed to be one of the better lisbon restaurants. And yes it is stylish nicely decorated with i do not know why an american feel to it and the food is good. Extensive not overpriced winelist but... yes there is a but the food is only good not really special... An extraordenary good cheese buttery sheep cheese (queijo de ovelha amanteigado) from the alentejo, really delicious. The starters we ordered arrive very quickly...waited longer for a mac donalds already :)

The tartaro de salmao (salmon tartare) was delicious, the foie gras ok the potato skins disappointing. Would like to give the chef a recepy that is a milion times better. The main dishes were ok, the sauce of the steak xl (bife xl) is good but served with thin fries (i hate them too greasy nothing better than traditional cut double fried fries) not a slice of tomato, leaf of salad or vegetable... for over 20 euros that is not ok. Deserts again were ok but not spectacular. Not a bad restaurant but i was disappointed... for the same money i prefer to go to bica do sapato.

mmm: **
eddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17226803288561658345noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37678951.post-48216473060072611832009-02-08T07:55:00.000-08:002009-02-08T11:09:19.260-08:00O Delgadinho, Setubal
name: O delgadinho rodizio de peixe
location: Av Bento Jesus Caraça 136, 2910 Setubal
Tel: 91 6118908
Closed on monday !

info: A regular portuguese restaurant nothing fancy but what hits your plate is GOOD. Fresh grilled fish keeps coming, if you like it you accept or wait for the next plate. With this fresh fish you get boiled patatoes, salad and açorda. The fishes they grill is the catch of the season. This time we had Dourada, Lulas, carapau, salmon, besugo... if you want the names in english good luck try on the internet :) but it was all very fresh tasty and for a very reasonable price. 12.5 euro per person including wine and desert. Very nice view over the bridge (25abril) and lisbon. Very nice setting, modern but tastefull, nice and confortable. They serve nice warm bread with Sao Jorge cheese and herb butter. Very tasty. The menu looks very appealing. My espetada was nice but it was served with sweet patato fries. Not really my taste. A beef stew was served with a brioche bread again mayby a speciality from the Açores but not really my style. A fish soup was tasty but it was served as a main course filling with lots of pasta but 13.5 euros is quite expensive. Again i was missing the croûtons and the french rouille (garlic mustard mayo)
The desserts were a bunch of very sweet, too sweet local egg and sugar mixtures. Again i was disappointed. It is a very nice place and with a italian cuisine with portuguese and brazilian influences they seem to have a pretty good menu with lots of pizza pasta and beef dishes. For the fish and shelfish lovers some dishes are provided as well. You are difficult if you can not find anything to you taste. It is not cheap but not overpriced eather. There is a price for this prime oceanvieuw location with a good size parking lot. Reservation for bigger groups is a must. The restaurant started as a chicken grill i was told but is now famous for all his grilled dishes. There is a vast variety of dishes and better than before they do not seem to run out of things that fast. The whole restaurant has recently been refurbished and it looks a lot better than before. They also serve for take-away and this service seems pretty succesfull too. Try the grilled t-bone (costeleta de novilho) or the espetada saloia (large beef skewer enough for 2) or the ribs (entrecosta) also the fish is very fresh looks very good.
A good idea is sharing a fish dish followed by a meat dish. Fish by the kilo can give you a pricier bill but if you like grilled fish go for it.
mmm: ***
Posted by mmm-tester at 2:14 AM eddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17226803288561658345noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37678951.post-3748893579917633182008-08-24T10:01:00.000-07:002010-03-08T10:08:44.319-08:00Buffet house (carcavelos, junqueiro)name: Buffet house
type place: asia restaurant.
An all you can eat type place in carcavelos trying to ride the sushi wave.
location: praceta do junqueiro, lote 1, 2775 Carcavelos, Junqueiro (perto do riviera hotel)
tel: 21 4572188
open every day price
idea: less than 10 €
Price quality good. The teppan-yaki is prepared in front of you. The sushi and sashimi arrives constantly. Also some fried vegetables, shrimp and chicken (tempura) A little cheaper for lunch than for dinner but always a good deal. We like it a lot and been there several times. This restaurant is better qualitiy than the food on a belt place that we visited and talked about before. Finding a parking space can be a little more difficult. Also take away if you want to eat sushi a little more private :). We have a preference for the Samurai restaurants were they serve at the table from a menu as many dishes as you can eat for about the same price. Then you always receive the hot dishes hot and the sushi and sashimi at the minute fresh.
Strange this restaurant does not show up in the yellow pages nor on the net.
mmm: ***eddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17226803288561658345noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37678951.post-13056024108548775542008-05-04T12:52:00.000-07:002010-03-08T10:10:23.812-08:00Alpendre arriolos (evora 120 km from lisboa)

name: o Alpendre
type place: restaurante tipico portugues
location: Bairro Serpa Pinto 22, Arraiolos 7040-014 ARRAIOLOS
tel: 266 419 024
price idea: 20+
info: Far from lisbon but a tip for a trip to evora... this is a really tipical portuguese or even alentejo restaurant. The entrance looks nothing special but once inside is a cosy atmosphere and portuguese food at its best.
mmm: ****
eddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17226803288561658345noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37678951.post-29234026713322590322008-05-03T11:47:00.000-07:002010-03-08T10:10:46.301-08:00Herdade de esporao, reguengos (180 km from lisbon)

name: restaurante do herdade de esporao
type place: upmarket restaurant in a unique setting
Herdade de Esporao, Reguengos de Monseraz +/-180 km from lisbon !!!!
more info: http://www.esporao.com/Pages/index.aspx
price idea: +50, yes expensive but worth it!
info: This restaurant is part of the vineyards of esporao one of the famous internationally known wines from portugal. Nice place for a day out. You can combine a visit to the caves and the museum and the historical tower with a lunch or dinner in the restaurant. The food is delicuous but some mistakes that are strange for such a quality stylish place. The different dishes for our table came with 5 minute intervals ... bad... and diferent dishes come with exactly the same garnish... 2 disturbing mistakes in a otherwise superb restaurant. The food is very good. I wish i could talk to the chef so he could work on the presentation... it would be a definately five star place. But forget about my bitching go there and enjoy the visit of the vineyard, the caves and the restaurant, you will love it. And the wines, my favourite is the single cast syrah but off course the reservas and private reservas are excelent !
mmm: ****
eddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17226803288561658345noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37678951.post-15142129211705960782008-04-20T09:41:00.000-07:002010-03-08T10:12:13.474-08:00Espaço dos sentidos (oeiras) centro CLOSED !!name: O Espaço dos sentidos oeiras RESTAURANT CLOSED !!!!
tupe place: portuguese new style restaurant
location: Rua Cândido dos Reis, 123 - Oeiras 2780-214
tel: 91 8194380
price idea: 15+
info: This restaurant sticks out... it is rather small but differently decorated that the others. Something new in the very traditional restaurant world in Portugal. Prices are very acceptable service is very friendly (seems to be son serving and mother cooking), and they both do a very good job. I liked the bacalhau and the stuffed chicken is very good too. Give them a try it is fun no frlll no pretention place hidden away behind the camara municipal (town hall) of historical oeiras.
mmm: **eddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17226803288561658345noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37678951.post-60008971261020283882008-04-20T09:35:00.000-07:002010-03-08T10:11:21.040-08:00Valentino (lisboa) restauradoresname: Valentino
type place: ver large italian restaurant
location: rua jardim do regado, 37
tel: 21 346 1727
price idea: +18
info: Good italian restaurant. I am not the biggest fan of italian restaurants. It is just not my favorite but somtimes we have to please our friends or loved ones and go to a place they like. They have a very extensive list of dishes, pizzas, pastas, meats and fish. A restaurant in the center of the city that is always open and you feel like italian in lisbon give them a try.
mmm: **eddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17226803288561658345noreply@blogger.com0
