name: tia alice
type place: tipical negrais restaurant
location: largo do rossio, negrais +/-30kms from lisboa
tel: 219279467
http://www.tia-alice.com/
price idea: less than 20€
info: Good suckling pig restaurant. Something different If you like suckling pig or you never tried it then give it a go. It is quite good. If you do not plan on trying it don't go tru the effort. Unless you like to see the countryside north of Lisboa. A pleasant ride and not too far. It is part of the city of Sintra but still a 20 km drive form the center of Sintra. Service was ok, there was a waiting line outside. Specially on sundays this is a very popular destination for sunday lunch.
Try it not bad at all and something different !

rio's (oeiras - porto de recreio)

name: rio's
type place: trendy portuguese restaurant
location: avenida marginal, oeiras (in the porto recreio Sao Juliao da barra)
tel:
price idea: + 30 €
info: Good restaurant. A trendy restaurant but without the finishing touch. The waiters are not so very well trained but ok. The dishes are ok but noting whaoaw. We have been 3 times but did not receive a good table yet. Guess you have to know somebody to get the better tables.
Worth trying though great view and even a better view if you get a good table !

a pastorinha (carcavelos praia)

name: a pastorinha
place: stylish restaurant with live piano:
location: Avenida Marginal: Carcavelos praia, close to the forte de Sao Juliao,
tel: 21 4571892
price idea: +30€
info: a very nice location, the set up is more than pleasant enough, live piano. This could be the start of a great revieuw but what a let down. I was so disappointed with my first visit i went again cause it would be so nice to have a great restaurant with that live music atmosfere close by. But oh man ! How can waiters be so horrible. Older gentlemen who know it all and try to push the clients to behave the way they like. We were pushed to the dishes they liked to recommend... they did not like us taking a drink before dinner and enjoy our company. No or duty was to listen to the waiters and make our choise. Preferably fish... It made me so upset we almost had to be impolite ! Because me and my friend decide to share a 'chateaubriand' for two we were punished receiving a high quality peace of meat (rather small) but abolutely tasteless. No salt no condiments.
They need to fix this place up. Make the older waiters aware that there was a revolution in 1974 and that people love to be treated nice. They are there to please the client not the other way around.
I would almost say go see if you like to ordered around and like to have a meal like you did in board school.

mmm: no star yuk (where location and live piano would receive several stars)

bica do sapato (lisboa estaçao santa apolonia)

name: Bica do sapato (cafeteria)
location: Avenida Infante dom Henrique Armazem B (close to santa apolonia station)
tel: 218 810 320
price idea: 30+ €
info: Excelent international restaurant. Is called cafeteria cause they have also a fine dining restaurant and a sushi bar in the same location. The cafeteria is a very elegant modern restaurant with a view on the river Tejo. Excelent service very nice young ambiance with style! The staff is very well trained and polite. Menus in several languages. This restaurant could be in any trendy city !!! But they do not forget they are in Portugal. For the narrowminded international travelers you have some no risk dishes but why not try the portuguese specialities served in a rather original way. The serve culinary versions of the national dishes.
Not cheap but worth every Euro. One of my favorites for those special ocasions !
We visit this restaurant several times per year, and they never let us down.
Note that there is three parts in this building, a sushi restaurant, the cafetaria (were we always go) that now features some sushi dishes (best sushi and sashimi i had in lisbon) and the restaurant a more formal part with more formal attitude and a slightly different menu (a little more expensive)

mal amanhado (lisboa- alegria)

name: mal amanhado
type place: local portuguese restaurant and grill
location: rua da alegria 54, lisboa (entre principe real e avenida de liberdade)
tel: 213433381
idea: less than 25 info: Good local restaurant.
Closed on sundays
We will have to visit this place again to make a better judgement. We were 14 visiting this place and that makes it somewhat difficult. But the service was very welcoming and pleasant. A bit slow but then again we were a party of 14. They have lots of appetisers portuguese style. Small plates with stuff. Sardines, cheese, chorizo, squid. Ok but nothing whoaow! the olive oil was the best... extra virgin olive oil tasting like almonds for dipping bread. They have varios fish and meat dishes. Little more refined than the regular portuguese restaurant. Let us visit this place again and we give a more acurate judgement. Cause right now i do not know how many stars to give.

quinta de cortador (caiscais - perto do fim do A5)

name: quinta de cortador
place: local portuguese restaurant and grill
location: rua casal queimado (close to the cascais exit of the A5 behind 'mini-preço'
tel: 214852070
price idea: less than 15 € info: Good big local family restaurant.
The place to go when you are a big group or you want to try some grilled portuguese meat. They have goat, boar and lam beef and pork. Not to many fish dishes.
But the meat is good. The appetisers are traditional cheese, ham and shrimp. I think the shrimp is overpriced. Good but more expensive than a main course.
Try if you are in the neighbourhood.

type place: local portuguese restaurant and grill

info: Very good local restaurant. The place to go when you are close to the bairo alto. If you are a bigger group or over the weekends it might be a problem. The are not so keen on taking reservations. A sign of succes they are always full. The price/quality ratio of this restaurant is hard to beat ! Both fish and meat dishes are pretty good. Try this out... worth while !!!

cataplana e companhia (lisboa - campo ourique)

name: cataplana e companhia
type place: portuguese restaurant and grill
location: Lisboa, Rua Fereira Borges, 193-A
tel: 213865269 price idea: less than 20 € info: Good restaurant. They have pride in the several cataplanas they are serving. A cataplana is a copper pan with copper lid that are used to cook tasty dishes. It can be with meat or fish. The most known ones are made with fish but apparantly the one with pork was the original one. What the heck it is what you like, no ?
The have good beef and meats to from the grill Nice welcoming restaurant. Service was good and there were cloth napkins ! If you are in this area check them out. The also have a big room in the basement. I do not like that place so if you make reservations ask to sit on the ground level.

nordeste (aboboda)

name: nordeste
type place: local portuguese restaurant and grill
location: Abóboda, rua do Pinhal lote 4
tel: 214446100
price idea: less than 15 €
info: Good local restaurant. The place to go when you are in Aboboda or with a bigger group. Thr night we went there was a party of 16 people that were very noisy. It overpowered the whole meal. Add on top of that to many fumes of the grill entring in the dining room which is like a big room in the basement. It all looked a bit strange but it was packed and the food was more than acceptable. We might have to try again. They have various grilled meats and fishes. the ribs were good, the robalo was good, the mixed skewer was tasty.

catemba (carcavelos lombos sul)

name: catemba
type place: local portuguese restaurant and snack
location: estrada da torre lote 47A, lobos sul, carcavelos,
tel: 214579148
price idea: less than 15 €
info: Great bairro restaurant We go at least once a week. Cozida porguguesa on thursday the day of feira de carcavelos, a big market just about 400 m from the restaurant. They have a selection of pratos de dia and the regular menu. Best frites i had in Porgual. They also sell totoloto and euromilhoes. Great place for a meal ! Been there more than 20 times and never had a bad meal. Try there carcoletas assadas in the season, delicious. Or the costeletas de vitelo, the "saltembuq", beef with presunto in a sauce. It is all very good and no pretention at all ! A dream of a family owned local restaurant. Something that does not exist anymore in the belgian culture. A shame. The traditional crew of tree people are there to serve you every day of the week and saturday.

tel:
price idea: less than 10 €

Be carefull diabolo is quite spicy They also do pastas too and salads... and there fastfood "frites" are quite good. This is always a + for a belgian judge :) They also sell newspapers, bread and pastries. Not a dinner place but great place for a quick meal.
